What’s your favorite Bible Verse? Eph 3:14-21, “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. At which facility do you serve? Baltimore County Detention Center
Why did you decide to volunteer inside the jails? I find great joy in mentorship, empowering people, and walking with others through difficult seasons of life. I really love how Jesus speaks life into people in some of their lowest moments so I try to emulate that when I have the opportunity. Furthermore, the Gospel is an eternal truth centered on redemption, so this message seems deeply relevant to the correctional space where people are oftentimes defined by their mistakes, which is extremely unfortunate. Hopefully and prayerfully by sharing more of this Good News, those who hear this message will come to know that there’s still hope and that God still has a plan and a purpose for them. God started to lay this on my heart in 2021 while I was still in medical school. So now that I’m finished with my pediatrics residency, and starting Adolescent Medicine Fellowship, I’m looking forward to finally being able to serve in this capacity, as a lot of my work in medicine is geared towards improving the care of this group.
What skills do you have that make you successful in your service? I believe I’m very encouraging, empowering, and able to build others up. I try to be patient and understanding. There are also life experiences and childhood memories that will allow me to connect with the group.
What will change the climate of youth violence in Baltimore? Prayer and Spirit-led believers working in professional/secular spaces having dominion in whatever sphere of influence God has sent them into, while also partnering with faith-based groups, community-based organizations, legislative advocacy, community activism, and public policy reform.
