The Beginning

Relational, not transactional ministry behind the walls.

unCUFFED was founded by Eric Heiland with help from Kim Turner, Brody Bond, Mike Griffith, and Chris Wesley. The ministry was intentionally relational and not transactional. Many jail ministries pass out their King James Bibles, have the guys recite the sinner’s prayer and move on. unCUFFED was founded on the idea that we wanted to deeply know, in Hebrew yada, to walk alongside these young men as they endured incarceration and flourished upon release.

Eric’s idea was UNO, we went inside to sit with the boys, play cards, and talk. Not jamming a Christian message but building relationships that allowed us to share the Truth of Jesus Christ. From a humble start at the Baltimore County Detention Center Juvenile Tier, God has blessed us to expand to 7 facilities and 40 volunteers. Please pray that He continues to bless our work and guides us in Kingdom service.
