boy in court

Juveniles are often sentenced in the Adult court system.

unCUFFED is all about enduring relationships that transcend the prison facility. One way we can help is to show up in court for a boy. We don’t take this lightly, we understand that crime requires a consequence, but in cases where we see sincere change, repentance and a desire to pursue faith we take action.

David (not his real name) has a court hearing on August 19th, 2025. Our YDC Volunteers Erick and Miriam are planning to attend. Miriam said, “We truly believe it’s important to show up for him. The growth we’ve witnessed in David has been nothing short of inspiring. He started off quiet and reserved, but over time, he began to open up—asking thoughtful questions, engaging more, and genuinely enjoying the sessions. You could see the shift in him. He became consistent, curious, and hopeful. He’s come such a long way, and we want to be there to speak on that transformation. His journey deserves to be seen and supported.”

We are working with another young man at BCDC and we will be showing up in court for him as well.  Here is a sample of Bryan’s letter to the Judge, “I have little knowledge of his criminal offense or his actions before incarceration, but I can testify to his behavior inside. We speak about owning our actions, receiving God’s forgiveness, and living out the fullness of what repentance truly means. We believe he must break the downward cycle of his life and, with God’s help, create a future life of servant leadership and compassion. We talk about picturing life in five years as a man with a good job, taking care of his family. We talk about the hard work necessary and that life’s not fair, but we must persevere.”

It is our hope and intent to stay in touch with guys in a mentoring role after they are released. We work with them to create a supportive network of care to help them stay focused, directed, and on the right path. With God’s help, our entire unCUFFED team believes they have a chance for a bright future. We understand that criminal actions demand a legal consequence, but we ask, if possible, that whatever mercy is possible be shown in their cases. We believe they have the desire and motivation to succeed legally.

Please pray for our guys, and for our volunteer teams to have patience and perseverance.
