Mike Ashe Jr. - Charles Hickey School & Baltimore County Detention Center

Mike has been a blessing. He has held the line for our ministry in times of struggles and short staffing. As an old guy, I can say he is is a terrific young man who loves Jesus and cares about those behind bars. I love this guy!

Where do you attend church? Cornerstone Community Church

What’s your favorite Bible Verse? Matthew 11;28-30, “Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light

At which facility do you serve? Charles Hickey School and Baltimore County Detention Center in the past.

Why did you decide to volunteer inside the jails? To be the person I needed at that age.

Is there a girl or boy you have connected with? Yes, of course.

What skills do you have that make you successful in your service? I know the culture, I’ve been in institutions before, I know how to keep it real with them while presenting the gospel.

What will change the climate of youth violence in Baltimore? Safe and more attractive ways to make money and start careers. Getting young men to understand the seriousness of death and eternal life. Start churches where urban kids can go and learn about God in a way that makes sense to them but stay true to the Bible.

Comments: I pray more men help spread the gospel in the Detention Centers and especially with the youth. Anyone who’s been thinking about volunteering I want to say it’s not as intimating as you think, it’s very fulfilling and has brought ME closer to the Lord.
