Volunteer Focus: Reid Mitchell

Reid

Reid Mitchell - Central Booking

Reid is a Territory Manager for Finch Turf and a member of Hunt Valley Church where he plays the drums in the worship band. Reid serves with unCUFFED at the Baltimore Central Booking & Intake Center on the Drug and Alcohol Rehab Tier.

What is your favorite Bible verse? John 8:12, “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.

Why do you serve with unCUFFED? I saw a documentary on people being raised in terrible situations with few opportunities and no hope. It broke my heart. I realized that I am privileged and I wanted to help “the least of these.”

Have you made a special connection with an inmate? I am close to Johnny W at BCBIC. I’m also in touch with his brother on the outside, we are hoping he will get a job working outdoors when he is released. I set up an interview for him in Essex. It was important that the job was accesible by public transit. I want him to get into a different circle of people and life that will help him be home for good.

What makes you a succesful volunteer? I know I am a broken man trying to help others through God’s grace. I don’t have all the answers but Jesus does.

What will change the climate of violence in Baltimore? Seeing people as people, all of us created in God’s image and likeness. Whatever the distractions of the day, like technology and social media, they draw us away from seeing people, making eye contact, loving each other, it separates humanity.
