Books, Bibles & The Word!

We will enter a tier for Bible Study with Bibles, Jesus Calling Books, and composition books and will literally be overrun with demand for something meaningful to read. To brings books inside, we must use these clear plastic bags and each title must be approved in advance. It makes me smile when we return and find guys who have marked up their Bibles, folded back pages in books, and come with questions about what they have read.

Prisons are lonely places. The real punishment of incarceration is the sadness brought on by deprivation of contact with family and friends. You have a great deal of time to contemplate your future: that can be a plan of redemption and change or a more insidious agenda to return to the desires of the flesh.

For the majority of the young men with whom we work, we can only see them once a week. You might ask, what are they doing the other 166 hours per week? Some are truly moving forward by holding their own Bible Studies on their tiers, gathering for daily corporate prayer times after the lights are off when the evening count is complete. Sadly, some sit idly in their cells or their bunks without much to do other than wallow in grief and depression. For that reason, we want them to have resources to read and study when we are not with them.

Prisons are meant to have libraries and to provide inmates with access to literature, but this rarely plays out. I’m sorry to say that at unCUFFED, many of our communications are related to raising funds. My true desire is to just sit across the table from a boy and talk about Jesus but without funding we cannot do this well. Right now, I am focused on securing our book supply for the remainder of the year. No joke, I could easily give away 500 books a week if we had the resources but for now, we are trying to raise up:

  • 250 FCA Bibles
  • 500 NIV Bibles
  • 100 Recovery Bibles
  • 500 Jesus Calling Books
  • 200 copies of The Master Plan by Chris Wilson
  • 500 Composition Books.

This is a huge ask and we may not meet our goal but still, whatever we can raise will benefit the boys, girls, men, and ladies that we serve. This is our Amazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/GSOZBU9S06HP?ref_=wl_share. Items can be shipped to our office (5400 Loch Raven Blvd Baltimore, MD 21239) or my home (6014 Smith Ave Baltimore, MD 21209.) If you can order 5 books, 10 books or 500 each order will bless the incarcerated that we serve.

Because the jails restrict what we can bring in, it is important to only purchase these items. For the FCA Bibles, Sirena Alford can provide them for $12 each, please reach out to me (jrusnak@uncuffedministries.org, 410.929.2154) and I can connect you with Sirena. Thank you for considering this, I can assure you that no book you purchase will go unread, in fact it will be read over and over again by multiple inmates as we do our best to flood the jails with Jesus-centric literature.

If you are interested in serving or know someone who may be interested, they can reach out to us at (410) 657-2538 or contact@unCUFFEDministries.org. If you would like more information or would like to apply click here: linktr.ee/uncuffed.
