Defining Social Justice for the Kingdom

Micah 6.8

Jesus is for the least, the last and the lost. God’s overwhelming love for those in need calls us to action. For the Church, that action is defined by Micah 6:8. We are required by Scripture to ‘act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.’

Jesus is for the least, the last and the lost. You only need to consider Job 5:15-16, Luke 4:17-19, James 2:5 or Deuteronomy 15:7 to know that God’s overwhelming love for those in need calls us to action. For the Church, that action is defined by Micah 6:8. We are required by Scripture to ‘act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.’

At unCUFFED we walk alongside those in need to meet their secular needs. We might help to restore family relationships, connect our kids with a lawyer, refer them to drug & alcohol counseling, or just play cards with them to build a relationship that earns us the right to speak the Truth of Jesus Christ. We deplore the violence, availability of cheap drugs, poor schools, corruption, and generational poverty that plague our communities but even more so we desire and work towards securing a child’s eternity through reconciliation with Christ.

In these efforts it is critical that we remember that we, in our own sin, are also the least of these; we partner with, not dictate to those in need. We walk alongside the downtrodden to do life together as we are being led to reconciliation with Christ. As we are being reconciled to Him we are drawing closer to each other and being led into agreement and accord. We’ll be spending the next few weeks defining unCUFFED’s Social Justice work in Biblical Terms. Next week: “Act Justly”
