About The Facility

The Youth Detention Center (YDC) located at 926 Greenmount Ave. in Baltimore city is run by Maryland Department of Safety and Correctional Services.  The facility that opened in 2017 houses male and female youth under the age of 18 who have been charged as adults and are either waiting for their trials or are serving the beginning of their sentence.  The secure facility has access to dietary, medical, educational and counseling services as well as space for recreation. In addition to receiving services, youth residing in the detention center attend school within the facility year round, five days a week for six hours a day at  Eager Street Academy, a  school run by the Baltimore City Public School system.

How To Visit

General Population: 

Friday through Sunday Friday 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Must register by 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Must register by 10:30 a.m.
Duration of visit is 30 minutes

General Information:

A visitor 16 years of age and older must present photo identification.

Children (18 years of age and younger) visiting the inmate must be immediate family to either the inmate or the visitor and must be accompanied by a person 18 years of age or older who is on the inmate’s visiting list.

A maximum of three (3) visitors per inmate at one time.
