The Cheltenham Youth Detention Center originally opened in 1870. Located in Prince George’s County, Cheltenham serves as a secure detention facility for male youth who are waiting to go to court or be placed in a treatment facility. Cheltenham primarily serves male youth from Prince George’s, Montgomery, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties.

Cheltenham provides dietary, medical, educational and counseling services as well as recreational space. In addition to receiving services, youth residing at the facility attend school in the facility year round, five days a week for six hours a day.

How To Visit

DJS welcomes parents, legal guardians, and grandparents to visit youth during visitinghours. Special visits can also be requested through the Facility Case Manager or Superintendent.
