Tim Schriver - Director of Juvenile Programming
For many years we served our boys in an old decrepit building on the yard of the Baltimore City Jail; it was dirty, unsafe, and overcrowded. We prayed fervently that the State of Maryland would find a more suitable place to hold juveniles that were not permitted to be held in the Juvenile Justice Center because of the severity of their crimes. Our prayers were answered, but not in the way we expected. In 2017, the State spent $35 million to construct the Youth Detention Center or what we sometime refer to as a ‘monument to Youth Incarceration.” Of course the new facility is cleaner and safer, it has a gym, and a well supplied High School constructed inside the facility but we were shocked by the increased capacity to hold juveniles. It sent us a clear message that the government had intentions to jail more young men in Baltimore City. We quickly realized that we had our work cut out for us. Tim took over the YDC operations in the midst of the pandemic and has built a strong, diverse volunteer team that conducts one-on-one mentoring several times a week and holds group Bible Studies. We are also working diligently to connect with the boys’ families and maintain contact with the boys when they return home. We are building enduring relationships as we commit ourselves to love them unconditionally. Tim and our volunteer team are on a roll!
Tim is currently working on his funding for the 2nd half of 2023 and the 2024. If you are able to support his great work with our boys please visit tinyurl.com/supporttimschriver
